Installing M5900 Drivers

This section describes how to install the AML M5900 Personal Data Terminal (PDT) for use with GolfNow Reservations 2013.

  1. Turn on the M5900
  2. Plug the USB cable into the scanner and then into the computer.
  3. A ‘Found New Hardware Wizard’ will appear.
  4. Select “No, not this time” and click Next,
  5. Select “Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)”.
  6. Click Next,
  7. Check “Include this location in the search:” and click Browse.
  8. Browse to the <DesktopM5900InstallM5900InstallDrivers directory and click OK. Now click Next,
  9. Windows will then search for the driver. If a prompt appears stating the M5900 Serial USB has not passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
  10. The wizard will finish and the hardware has been installed,
  11. Click Finish to close the Found New Hardware Wizard.

Install M5900 Software

This section describes how to install the M5900 Program Generator.

  1. Browse to the <DesktopM5900InstallM5900Install directory and double click the “M5900 1_0_7.msi” file to begin the installation.
  2. Click Next
  3. Select “End User Mode” and click Next,
  4. Select to install for Everyone and click Next,
  5. Click Next to begin the installation,
  6. Once the installation is complete, click Close,

Configure the Computer COM Port

When the M5900 is plugged into the computer, it displays as a COM port in the Device Manager. To get the M5900 to communicate with GolfNow Reservations, it will need to be COM1, but will display as COM5, COM7, or any other number by default. This section describes how to setup the M5900 to appear as COM1.

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties,
  2. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager,
  3. Click the plus sign next to “Ports (COM & LPT)”. The M5900 will be displayed here as a COM port and most likely it will not be COM1,
  4. Double click “Communications Port (COM1)” to open the properties window.
  5. Click the “Port Settings” tab and then click “Advanced…”,
  6. In this screen, change the COM Port Number to another that is not in use.
  7. Click OK a couple times to get back to the Device Manager,
  8. Back in the Device Manager, double click “M5900 Serial USB (COMx)” to open the properties screen,
  9. Click the “Port Settings” tab. Take note of the Bits per second, Data bits, Parity, and Stop bits. They should be 9600, 8, None, and 1 respectively. If they do not, change them to these settings.
  10. and then click “Advanced…”,
  11. Change the COM Port Number to COM1 and click OK a couple times to get back to the Device Manager.
  12. If a message displays that the COM port is already being used by something else and might cause problems, just click OK,
  13. Close the Device Manager,
  14. Unplug the M5900 from the computer and then reboot the computer.

Configuring the M5900 Software COM Settings

This section describes how to configure the connection settings within the M5900 Programmer software:

  1. Turn on and plug in the M5900 into the computer,
  2. If the M5900 icon does not appear, select Start | All Programs | AML | M5900 Programmer,
  3. The M5900 tray icon will appear after a few seconds,
  4. Right click on the M5900 tray icon and select “Configure”,
  5. In the settings section, change the Baud Rate to 9600, Data Bits to 8, Parity to None, and Stop Bits to 1.
  6. Click Save Settings when finished.
  7. Unplug the M5900 from the computer and restart the computer.

Configuring the M5900 for Installing GolfNow Reservations Import Files

This section describes how to configure the M5900 for sending the necessary import files into the device:

  1. Make sure the scanner is turned on and UNPLUGGED from the computer.
  2. From the main menu, browse to “Settings”, then to “PC Uplink Settings”,
  3. Press Enter on “Proto” and select “M5900 ProgGen”,
  4. Press Enter on “Port” and select “USB Slave”,
  5. Press the down button until “Save Settings” is highlighted at the button. Press Enter to save,
  6. Hit the Esc button to exit out of the screen.

Uploading Inventory Files to M5900

This section describes how to send the 4Inv and 4InQty files to the AML 5900 to perform an Inventory:

  1. Turn on and plug in the M5900 into the computer,
  2. If the M5900 icon does not appear, select Start | All Programs | AML | M5900 Programmer,
  3. The M5900 tray icon will appear after a few seconds,
  4. Right click on the M5900 tray icon and select “Send Files”,
  5. Browse to the C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataGolfNow ReservationsOther directory and select the 4InvQty.ap5 file,
  6. ***Note: on Windows Vista, the path will be C:ProgramDataGolfNow ReservationsOther.
  7. Click Open,
  8. On the M5900, browse to “Program Mgmt” and then “Get data from PC”,
  9. A File Transfer window will appear after a few seconds, sometimes tens of seconds,
  10. The M5900 will then wait for the file to download,
  11. The M5900 will receive the file, compile it, and then install it,
  12. Press Enter on the M5900 to close the screen,
  13. The first inventory file is now transferred to the M5900. Repeat steps 4 through 11 for the other inventory file,
  14. You can double check the two inventory files have been successfully installed on the M5900 by selecting
  15. “Run Program” to see all installed programs.

Configuring the M5900 for GolfNow Sell Physical Inventory

This section describes how to configure the AML 5900 to be able to communicate with GolfNow Reservations. Because the M5900 uses a USB cable but appears as a COM port, a few steps are required to setup the M5900 to be able to communicate and import inventory counts into GolfNow Reservations:

Configuring the M5900

By default the M5900 uses the “M5900 ProgGen” protocol to communicate with the Program Generator. To be able to communicate with GolfNow Reservations, the protocol needs to be switched to “xModem”.

  1. On the M5900, browse to “Settings” and then to “PC Uplink Settings”,
  2. Press Enter on “Proto” and select “xModem”,
  3. The Proto should now be “xModem” and the Port should be “USB Slave”,
  4. Press the down button until “Save Settings” is highlighted at the button. Press Enter to save,
  5. Hit the Esc button to exit out of the screen.
